The announcement of Darksiders Genesis fans met ambiguously. After the first gameplay rollers, many players were confused by the isometric camera and the external similarity of the game with Diablo 3. But what is actually a game, I will try to explain in my article.
In the chronology Darksiders, Genesis takes the place of prequel. The ruler of Hell, Lucifer, plans to intrigues against only those who appear in the Universe of mankind and collects minions to implement his insidious plans. In order to prevent the great deceiver to destroy people, the charred advice, the keepers of the equilibrium of good and evil in the universe, they send to hell two of the four horsemen of the Apocalypse, the swordsman and the arrow of the discord. Together they will go through all hell to solve the mysterious plan of the prince of darkness.
If the players are familiar with the first part with the war, then the fans were presented to the fans for the first time. Before Darksiders Genesis, about the fourth rider of the apocalypse could be found exclusively from comics and books based on the series. Another horseman flashed in Darksiders 3 for a couple of moments, but this is not count. So Darksiders Genesis became his full -fledged debut.
The very plot of “genesis” caused me conflicting feelings. The narrative was made in the form of dialogs when the game stops and the window with the icons of the characters and the drawn arts pops up. Given the game budget, I liked these ideas and in this case, I think this is a plus. My claims relate directly to the plot itself. Unlike the previous three parts, the story resembles a set of little -knitted events that were sewn with white threads. I have a feeling that the authors wanted to invest as many events and characters from the first two parts as possible, not thinking how it would look together. By the end of the game, I honestly forgot many details and that the riders forgot in hell. And this is all with a very strong finale of the game. The main characters and their dialogs among themselves save the plot. The scriptwriters perfectly demonstrated the difference between the characters, their worldview and how they gradually begin to recognize each other better. We can say that the search for Lucifer is just a background in the story of the friendship of two different people who are difficult to present with friends.

Before starting the analysis of the characters and differences in the game from the previous parts, I will say right away. Despite the fact that the game is an isometric Hack’n’slash, nothing in common except the camera and a pair of details, Diablo III has Darksiders Genesis. The game is almost completely built on the ideas of the first two parts. The developers from above were needed to create a convenient cooperative and to hide the weak technical side of the project, which I will also talk about. I only note that in places the developers failed to choose the normal angle of the camera.
The first thing I note is that Genesis abandoned the open world and moved to level passage. And I am calm about this idea, since in the open world, the games of the series coped the worst of all. Taking as the basis of The Legend of Zelda in this matter, the developers created empty open worlds, in which there was nothing to do besides the solution of spatial puzzles. It is also worth considering that the requirements for open worlds in games have become much more serious. It is not enough to make the world, we must fill it with activity. If in the first part it was partially forgiven, then in the second to explore an empty platform with rare puzzles was much more unpleasant. In Darksiders Genesis, at some levels there is a semblance of a huge site where you can even ride horses of riders, but this has nothing to do with the open world.
Spatial puzzles in the style of The Legend of Zelda returned from the first two parts. Players will again have to solve riddles with teleports and acrobatics in order to find exits from the dungeons, complete the task and collect secrets left by the developers. Puzzles, in my opinion, turned out to be easier than in previous games, but if you play alone. In the game together, the level design changes slightly and most puzzles become more difficult. In the end, I can say that I was satisfied with the design of levels. I can note minor shortcomings, but they are not even mentioned.
The main characters deserve more attention. The war has more health and most of the abilities are made so that the horseman tolerates more damage and can distract the attention of fat enemies to themselves. Many abilities of the rider are aimed at increasing damage in close combat and imposing harmful passive effects on enemies. Ragging on the contrary. Although the game says that the two horsemen caused are the same, but due to his pistols, discord causes damage much more intensively than his brother, which makes him the main thing in the destruction of enemies. The execution of enemies fills a special scale, which at the end enhances the damage and the effect of weapons of discord. Huge damage was compensated by small health. Discord dies from one two strokes, so you should play for it carefully. Because of these differences, playing for riders with a friend becomes much more interesting. One player takes the attention of enemies, while the other destroys them at a distance. And it works. I only note that inconvenience may occur on one computer, so it is better to play on a big screen or buy two copies of the game and play with a friend on the network. Fortunately, the price in the CIS allows this.
The developers made the pumping of the horsemen in several ways: through a tree of entities and the search for pieces of “heart” for each characteristic. What is a tree of entities? After death, the enemy with some probability leaves his essence. Depending on its type and indicated features, the essence gives certain bonuses: it imposes additional effects, enhances abilities and so on. In order for the effect of the essence to work, the essence must be placed on the "sheets" of the tree and tie it through other entities with its root. In addition, the type of recommended entity is shown on the sheets. Having placed the essence in a sheet of the same type, the player will increase the characteristics of the riders. The system, in my opinion, is quite flexible and greatly facilitates the passage of the game at high levels of complexity.
In addition to a tree, you can improve riders with Vulgrim and his assistants, or rather a slave, diet. For the boaters found at the levels, the riders buy new entities and combo sites from this couple. I advise you to buy primarily techniques for war from Dits, and for expanded it is enough to buy all improvements to increase the number of rounds. Discord has a short fighting technique, but they are made for a checkmark.
And before finishing, I note small details and the technical part of the game. The developers, unlike the second part, decided, made a normal card with secrets. After finding a level card, all secrets are marked, facilitating their collection. But this card is not without problems. One of them is that it does not show the whereabouts of the riders. Because of this, the position of heroes can only be understood by landmarks, for example, the secrets found. Also, the developers forgot to add the position of some secrets to the map and sometimes it does not note what the player collected, especially at the end of the game. Of other problems, I will note additional tasks in the spirit of destroy the environment and kill a certain number of monsters. At such moments, the game is very reminiscent of Diablo 3. But unlike Diablo, they are not just bad, I would say disgusting. For example, one of the first additional tasks, destroy 10 fleas at the level. It seems that nothing complicated, such enemies at the sea level, but it is necessary to destroy certain fleas, which are hidden in level. And outwardly they are no different from other ordinary fleas. The technical side of the project was made well, but with claims. Most of the models are taken from the first two parts, and the animation is clearly visible that they are cut, especially in finishing. Graphically the game looks a little worse than the second part, in my opinion. There are small graphic bugs and flaws that, I hope, will correct the exit of the game on the consoles.
Darksiders Genesis is a good cooperative game for several evenings. She has some disadvantages, but they almost do not interfere with the game. As part of the series, I believe that it turned out better than the third part, which was also budget, but in it the developers decided to change the direction at all to save. The prequel, on the contrary, retained the basis of the series, but changed the feed. If you are a fan of the series, then I recommend. I would not recommend it to lovers of Diablo, but if you are still a fan of Action \ Adventure in the style of Zelda or Batman Arkham asylum, then why not give the game a chance?
P.S. Do not play in Russian. The voice acting of some characters is so bad that they can understand what they can only talk about by subtitles, which are still broken in the game.
